YouTuber Cheng Neng-chuan was arrested and sentenced to two years in prison for posting a video with images of him and his friend Lu Tsu-hsien apparently being kidnapped.

Of Taiwanese origin, the young men were traveling through Cambodia and were arrested and sentenced in the country.

As a result, the video had images of the two young people being arrested and beaten by security guards in the city of Sihanoukville.

Namely, the area has become known for gangs that kidnap people and force them to carry out online scams.

However, the images were fake and they were arrested after being unmasked by other influencers.

With that, a Cambodian court said on Friday (16) that they were convicted of “incitement to cause chaos in social security”.

The government said the men produced videos with “false content that affects the honor, order and security” of the country.

Both were sentenced to two years and ordered to pay a combined fine of around US$2,000 (R$9,000).

It’s worth remembering that human trafficking through online scams is a huge problem in Cambodia, and Sihanoukville is one of the worst areas.

A UN report released last year estimated that around 100,000 people were forced to work in these fraudulent schemes in the country.
