The woman, Kristel Candelário, admitted she was guilty of murder and child endangerment. She made a deal with prosecutors.

As a result, in June 2023, Kristel left her daughter, Jailyn, at home in the city of Cleveland, in the state of Ohio, when she went to travel to two different destinations (the city of Detroit and the island of Puerto Rico, both in the USA) .

When she returned, she noticed that her daughter was in her playpen and was not breathing, and called the police. Agents stated that the girl was extremely dehydrated and was already dead.

In an autopsy, it was found that the girl died of starvation and dehydration.

The judge in the case, Brendan Sheehan, told Kristel she had committed treason by leaving her daughter alone without food. Addressing Kristel, he made a comparison with the victim, who was kept in a playpen for children: “Just as you didn’t allow Jailyn to leave confinement, you will spend the rest of your life in a cell without freedom, the only difference It’s in prison at least they will feed you and give you the liquids that you denied her.”

With that, the woman stated that she already has depression and mental health problems. She also said that she prays every day to ask for forgiveness.

“I feel so much pain over the loss of my baby, Jailyn. I’m very hurt by everything that happened. I’m not trying to justify my actions, but no one knew how much I was suffering and what I was going through. God and my daughter forgave me,” she said.
