As a result, more than 83% of the country’s territory faces problems with the disease. Vasquez stated that a state of emergency will be declared in 20 of the country’s 24 administrative regions. This will allow more flexible use of the public budget to combat dengue.

So far, 28 people have died from dengue fever in the country, according to official figures.

Where did this come from?

The country is experiencing a heat wave and heavy rain, which are favorable conditions for the reproduction of the mosquito that transmits dengue fever.

Furthermore, Vasquez, the Health Minister, said there is an imminent risk of a dengue outbreak. The number of new cases in the first seven weeks of 2024 (almost 25 thousand) is 95% higher than the number in the same period of 2023.

It is worth remembering that last year, more than 400 people died from dengue fever.
